Kakudate Matsuri Festival and Yama Float Ritual
7-9 September, Senboku (Akita prefecture)
This is the ritual of Kakudate, the city developed as a castle town, and first mentioned in “the diary of Satake Hokke” in 1701. It was originally held on 8 of December, but in some reasons, it changed to September nowadays.
Not only the variety of cultural essences of this festival, but also the faith to Yakushi Buddha still remains as an origin of this ritual to pray for the development of the city and longevity, safe and healthy of families before winter coming. Thus, it is an important float festival inherited its special traditions for long time.
