Kuwana Ishitori Matsuri Festival and its Saisha Float Ritual
The first Sunday of August and the day before the Sunday, Kuwana (Mie prefecture)
This float ritual is held for Kuwana shrine, which is the general shrine of the castle town Kuwana. Each area of the town brings own Saisha float and they make the parade with fierce the sound of gong and Taiko drums.
The ritual originally had the meaning of the summer purification ceremony in which a pure stone was taken from the river to purify the shrine.
In modern days, the town is divided into 11 groups to join the festival.
