Nagahama Hikihune Matsuri Festival and its Hikihune ritual
13-16 April, Nagahama (Shiga prefecture)
This event is the parade of 4 out of 12 festival floats in rotation each year in the annual spring festival of Nagahama Hachimangu Shrine.
Several different events are held throughout this long festival: Begins with the Mikoshi portable shrine parade and Kujitori lottery ritual on 13 April, followed by Noboriyama and Yu-watari parade on 14 April. Asa-watari parade, Tachi-watari, Kabuki dance dedicated to gods, the floats parade, and “Modori-yama” final parade of floats are on 15 April. 16 April is the after-party of this ritual.
The floats are equipped with a stage for the Kabuki (Kyogen) performers, and a room for the Takemoto (Gidayu singers) at the back. There is also a room for playing traditional "Hayashi" music on the second floor.
